How it works

Wire saws for photovoltaic wafering operate by threading a wire web around guide rolls and moving the wire at high speed through a workpiece brick. The DS 271 uses two wire guide rollers, each requiring 75 kW of power. The horizontal distance between the guide roll axes is 660 mm, and the wire web has a working height of 1515 mm and a width of 1030 mm. A wire break control system detects breaks and triggers a safe stop. The machine includes a slurry supply system and can run either a traditional slurry process or a water-based diamond wire process after upgrade.[2][6]

The DS 271 features a single-table design that is claimed to achieve a saw yield over 98% and an uptime of 96%. The wire speed is 15 m per second standard, with an option of up to 20 m per second. The machine is designed for easy maintenance and fast exchange of spools and guide rolls.[6]
